Theodoros Kolokotronis

Theodoros Kolokotronis was an important figure of the Greek War of Independence from the ottoman reign. He was born on 3 april 1770 in Messenia, and it seems he inherited the taste for politics from his father, who was involvedin the rebellion that was incouraged by Catherine the Great of Russia.Unfortunately his father was killed.Theodoros’ talents as a leader in an armed confruntation, emerged in his early teenage years, as by the age of fifteenhe was a captain in a Peloponnesian guerrilla group.
At age 50, when the war of Indepence outbroke, on 25 March 1821, Theodoros gathered a few groups which he trained and lead, becoming in short timea commander-in-chief, directing troops somewhere near Tripoli. After some great deeds on the battlefields, he finally defeated the Ottomans lead by Mahmud Dramali Pasha, in 1922.
After the war ended, Theodoros Kolokotronis became an ally of Russia and supported Prince Otto of Bavaria in becoming a king of Greece. He was in 1834 condemned to death, due reasons of treason, as he turned against the bavarian rule. Against all odds he was forgiven in 1835 and lived until 1843when he died in Athens.
