Callicrates

Callicrates aslo read as Kallicrates, was along with Ictinus an architect of the famous Parthenon. He was a renown architect of the ancient Greece, and has lived and created his great works sometime in the 5th century B.C.

He is the author of some temples on the Acropolis such as ” The Temple of Nike ” and co-author with other designers of the time of the Acropolis’ wall.

Callicrates, under the reign of Pericles, was appointed to make the design of the Parthenon, and reconstruction of the entire Acropolis, after the victory over the persians, for which the first architectural symbol was the ionian-style temple of Nike- temple of the victory.

It is belived that it was the credit of Callicrates tehnical and managerial talent and qualities, that stood at the basis of the building process of the structures on Acropolis, as more than just desgin style.
